What Is A Coven?

*coven (kùv´en, ko´ven) noun An assembly of 13 witches.

(Perhaps from Middle English covent, assembly, convent. See convent.)

How Can You Identify A Cat Coven?

Cat covens are found primarily outdoors and involve more than one cat (usually 13).

Standard Cat Coven Rituals

Cat covens perform eight major rituals during the year.

"Janah" meditates in her home before leaving for the night.

New Year Celebration - Halloween, Feast Of The Dead, All Hallows Eve, Samhain

"Angelica" goes through the motions of the ritual. Notice the shadow she is casting in the snow.

Shadowdance - Yule, Winter Solstice

"Sabrina" meditates as she stares into the flame of a candle hours before the ritual is to begin.

Firewax - Candlemas, Oimelc, Imbolc

"Kufu", watches a potential partner from a distance.

Frolic - Vernal Equinox, Spring, Ostara

"Luna" blesses the sacred ground that will be the location of the ritual.

Festival - May Day, Beltane

""Shiva" practices her quarter calls up until the moment of the ritual.

Meditation - Summer Solstice, Litha

"Magnus", the other male coven member, practices his part in the ritual.

Sun Games - Lughnasad, Lammas

"Karina" is prepared for the ritual.

Hunt Festival - Autumn Equinox, Harvest Home, Mabon

Note: The first roll of film with pictures of various coven members preparing for their rituals (seen here) developed with only a few minor problems; however, the second roll of film with pictures of the coven actually engaged in their rituals (not seen here) developed completely blank. We regret that we don't have any pictures or descriptions of the actual rituals to present at this time.
